The Carlisle City Council is responsible for the setting of fares in Hackney Carriages (taxis). Hackney Carriages are able to pick fares up from designated taxi ranks as well as being able to be flagged down by the public and must have meters fitted.
This is different to Private Hire vehicles which must be pre-booked prior to the journey and do not have to have a meter fitted.
