Abandoned vehicles become targets for vandals and arsonists, and many are taken and re-abandoned. The longer vehicles remain abandoned the more the costs of dealing with them escalate. Carlisle City Council has a duty to investigate and remove any vehicle which is abandoned. Under the Refuse Disposal Amenity Act 1978, it is also an offence for any person to abandon such a vehicle.
Carlisle City Council now offers a Free removal and disposal service for residents who no longer want their vehicle.
There are two ways that this can be done.
You can take your vehicle with the registration document and proof of residency directly to our contractor.
