Carlisle City Council’s Sport & Recreation Section are committed to the delivery of high quality sport and physical activity opportunities throughout Carlisle & District. Whether it is a specific sport interest or just getting out and being active our range of opportunities available may interest you. 

We are committed to developing existing and new facilities throughout the city in line with its facility priorities and securing external funding to achieve this. 

Our leisure facilities at the Sands Centre, the Pools, Stonyholme Golf Course, Bitts Park Tennis and Recreation Area and the Sheepmount Athletics are managed by Carlisle Leisure Limited, who work closely with us in providing high quality leisure services. 

Quest, the UK Quality Scheme for Sport & Leisure, is a continuous improvement tool for Sports Development. Our Sport & Recreation Section is accredited through Quest as being a Highly Commended service.
