During 2006 Carlisle City Council took part in the first countywide housing need survey, in partnership with the other district councils in Cumbria and the County Council. This represented a major piece of research, with almost 15,000 questionnaires sent out in the Carlisle district alone. The findings will be used to supplement the Cumbria Housing Strategy 2006/2011.

As a result of this project Housing Market Assessments have been drawn up for 20 identified housing markets across Cumbria including 3 in Carlisle:-

• Carlisle Urban 
• Carlisle Rural West (Dalston & Burgh wards)
• Carlisle Rural East (the remainder of our rural areas, including the key service centres of Brampton & Longtown).

The attached Housing Market Assessments summarise the key findings of the primary research, supplemented by secondary data sources.
