Fly Posting and Graffiti

Fly Posting

Fly posting is putting up unauthorised posters and stickers, usually adverts, in public places. The council is responsible for items attached to "the highway" - trees; bridges, lamp posts, roadsigns and other street furniture. If private property is involved (eg phone boxes or empty shops) then the council has no jurisdiction.

As well as removing fly posting, the enforcement team takes action against the people responsible. We have powers to prosecute both the people putting up the material and the businesses being advertised. The fines for fly posting are £80.

If you would like to report an instance of fly posting, please contact us.

Graffiti

Graffiti is a nuisance to remove and can cause offence.

The council has a specialist team whose job it is to clean up unsightly graffiti and fly posting around the city. We can advise on the removal of fly posters and graffiti and we can arrange for graffiti to be removed.

Anyone caught doing Graffiti is likely to receive a fixed penalty fine of £80 or maybe prosecuted through the courts.
