Refuse - flytipping

Fly-tipping is the illegal dumping of waste on any land without a waste management license being issued to authorise the depositing of waste on that land. It includes items as small as a single bag of domestic rubbish to lorry loads of trade waste.

Only the Environment Agency can issue a waste management license authorising the dumping of waste.  

Under the Environmental Protection Act 1990, Sections 33 and 59,  and the Clean Neighbourhoods and Environment Act 2005 those caught or witnessed dumping items may face prosecution which can result in a fine or imprisonment.

If you witness someone dumping waste please report it to us with the following informaion:

• Time and Date of the incident
• Location of the waste
• Type of waste if known
• Quantity of waste
• Vehicle description and registration
