Greenbox

The Greenbox recycling scheme is overseen by the 'Greenbox Recycling Partnership', which comprises of Carlisle City Council and Eden District Council.

• 46,047 households now receive the green box service

Paper, glass bottles and jars, and tins and cans are collected each fortnight from participating households using a specially provided 55 litre Greenbox. Of the materials collected, approximately 80% is paper and magazines, 18% are glass bottles and jars and 2% is made up of tins and cans.

Greenbox Scheme not available in your area at present?

Please look at the Recycling Points under Services for where you can take materials to be recycled. Hopefully your area will be included in the Greenbox Scheme very soon.

Do you have a calendar of collection dates?

If not, contact us or look it up here. Please put your paper, glass, tins and cans loose into your Greenbox and not in plastic carrier bags. Although it seems you are helping the crew by doing this, we can't recycle plastic carrier bags. If necessary, you can use a large stone to weigh down your papers in your Greenbox and the crew will put it back in your box after emptying. You may also wish to mark your property name or number on your box to ensure safe return

If you have mobility problems we may be able to help. We have a small quantity of reusable woven bags available for use by the elderly or infirm, or for residents living in small flats. Please call us on 01228 817200 to see if you think you need a bag instead of your Greenbox. You can also call us to arrange assistance with carrying your Greenbox or woven bag if required.
