Learning City

Learning City is a key priority for Carlisle City Council. We have identified 3 themes in the Corporate Improvement Plan:

  • Promoting access to learning;
  • Developing skills to support, nurture and attract businesses;
  • Leading by example.

The vision for learning in Carlisle

The wider Learning City agenda is about formal and informal learning, from cradle to career and beyond, offering local people the oppertunity to get involved in learning at times and in places that are convenient to them. It is about removing barriers to learning and raising aspirations and achievement at all ages and levels.

The next great British designer

Internationally renowned French designer, Philippe Starck, is heading up a specially created School of Design in Paris - and he’s looking for untapped design talent in the UK to be his first students.

Ten aspiring designers with the talent, drive and vision to create the next ‘must have’ products of the 21st Century will be given the unique opportunity to learn and work alongside Starck and his team over a period of several months. At the end of it, Starck will choose one person who will continue on in Paris for a six-month placement.

BBC Two LogoBBC Two will be there for this exciting and original new series, Philippe Starck’s School of Design.

Whether you’ve studied design for years or simply want to try your hand at something new, we want to hear from you. For more details and to apply for this exciting opportunity, please go to www.bbc.co.uk/schoolofdesign/
