‘Sail-In’ day planned this weekend

(Date of issue: Monday, 27 July 2009)

Local families are being invited to a ‘Sail-In’ day this Sunday (2 August) at Talkin Tarn Country Park.

It will be held between 10.30am and 4pm and has been organised by Carlisle Model Boat Club. It will also include guests from Windermere Model Boat Club.

A wide range of model boats will be on display at the event and some will be available for visitors to ‘have a go’ and sail the boats themselves.

Yachts, scale electric and steam-powered boats will all be on show (weather permitting), most of which have been hand-built by the members of the clubs.

Jack Webster, from Carlisle Model Boat Club, said:

“The event will be a rare opportunity to see an extensive collection of marine models, in one place, at one time. We hope to have around 30 model boats on show on the day and encourage visitors to come along for a family day out.”

Carlisle Model Boat Club has around 20 members and is based at Talkin Tarn during the summer months and Morton Community Centre in the winter. In you are interested in becoming a member, telephone the Club Secretary on 01228 564050.
