Carlisle’s Mayor leads countdown

(Date of issue: Monday, 20 April 2009)

Carlisle’s Mayor, Cllr Mrs Jacquelyne Geddes is asking city residents to follow her lead by toasting “England and St George” this Thursday (23 April).

Carlisle’s First Citizen will be raising an 18th Century Silver Cup to the English Patron Saint later this week. Lieutenant Colonel Robert Barnes OBE TD, a local member of “The Royal Society of St George”, together with Council Representatives and Friends, will be joining her.

The Mayor will undertake the ‘toast’ at 11am on St George’s Day, outside the Civic Centre, next to the Civic Centre’s flagpole (where the St George’s flag will be flown).
